Colin Edward Johnson - Visiting Researcher and Scholar

Let’s get started with The Child-Centered Classroom! Get Started

Colin Johnson grew up Connecticut and attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where he earned a B.A. and M.A. in Italian and English literature. His interest always skewed toward early childhood, however: he worked at a preschool throughout college, and wrote his graduate thesis about fairy tales. In 2007, he began working at Bing Nursery School, the laboratory school for the Department of Psychology at Stanford University. He left after five years to pursue his Masters in Child Development at Tufts University, where he focused on children’s cognition around media and literacy. Following Tufts, he was the Developmental Content Manager at Kidpative, Inc. producers of the early education apps Leo’s Pad and Learner Mosaic. In 2015, he returned to Bing Nursery School as Head Teacher and Manager of Programs for Parents and Educators, the school’s initiative to foster a community dedicated to improving the lives of young children and their families through parent engagement and far-reaching teacher education. He is thrilled to have made his home in the bay area with his wife, Deb, their dog, Winston, and arguably too many cooking gadgets.
